Who We Are
The Ellington Academy is a phonics-based home education program designed to help readers of all levels acquire and improve reading proficiency. Inspired by the incomparable Marva Collins, who was sought by both President Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush to be their Secretary of Education, The Ellington Academy instills in young readers the love of learning and literature.
Our employees are highly qualified, holding education degrees, passing scores on the Language Arts K-6 Florida Teacher Certification Exam, and a proven track record of successful reading instruction.
We employ the Socratic method to engage students and enhance their critical thinking skills. This method involves a series of questions and answers designed to test the logical soundness of definitions, viewpoints, or concepts. By emphasizing logical analysis, the Socratic method cultivates strong reasoning skills in students. By exploring the works of great authors, from Marcus Aurelius to Geoffrey Chaucer to Aristophanes, we discover the enduring value of reading.
